Plug type
UK Type G (3-pin square). Most camps provide adapters in tents but bring your own to be safe. Voltage 230V, 50Hz.
Visa
Most western passports get a Tanzanian visa on arrival ($50 USD cash) or via eVisa in advance (recommended — saves 30–60 min at immigration).
Wifi
Wifi available at all 3 camps — usable for messaging, email and light browsing; expect slowness on video calls. No wifi in vehicles. Cellular data available with a local SIM (Vodacom or Airtel) for ~$10/week.
Tipping
Camp staff: $10–15 USD per guest per day, pooled at the tip box. Guide: $20–30 USD per guest per day, given directly. Airstrip porters: $1–2 USD per bag. All optional but expected.
Weather
June–October: peak dry season, cooler mornings (10–15°C), warm afternoons (24–28°C). Best wildlife viewing of the year. December–March: short greener season, warmer, occasional afternoon showers — calving season in southern Serengeti.
Currency
Tanzanian shilling (TZS) and US dollar both widely accepted at camps and parks. Bring crisp post-2009 USD notes for tips, visa and incidentals. Cards accepted at most lodges; cash preferred for transfers and tips.
Time zone
East African Time (EAT, UTC+3). No daylight saving — same year-round. Same as Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia.
Packing list
Layers in neutral colors (avoid bright white & blue). Long sleeves & trousers for cool mornings + sun protection. Sun hat, polarised sunglasses, walking shoes. Binoculars (8×42 ideal). Light rain jacket.
Photography
Bring a long lens (200–600mm) for game; a wide-angle (16–35mm) for landscapes & camps. Spare batteries — solar charging at camps but slower than mains. Dust-protection bag essential. Polarising filter for skies.
Vaccinations
Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from a YF risk country. Malaria prophylaxis recommended; consult your travel doctor.
